Who Is Micah 6 Community?

Micah 6 Community is dedicated to “Building the Neighborhood that Pontiac Deserves.” As a comeback city, Pontiac is writing its own story of recovery, and Micah 6 is proud to be part of this journey. We are committed to ensuring that neighbors are known, services are accessible, and families are supported. We do this through:

  1. Community gardens and food programs

  2. Summer youth programs

  3. Basic home repair projects

  4. Development projects that foster community unity

Our Culture

At Micah 6 Community, we value employees who align with our cultural principles. These are the values we live by:

  • Relationships First: We prioritize relationships over projects and neighbors above all else. Our goal is to leave every interaction positive and to foster lasting friendships through our work.

  • Figure It Out: We’re self-starters who embrace challenges. There’s no easy way to do this work, and we believe in our abilities to solve problems and make progress.

  • Innovate/Take Risks: “Give it a shot” is a guiding phrase here. We encourage trying, failing, learning, and evolving. The only thing that isn’t an option is doing nothing.

  • Follow-Through: When we commit, we get it done. Consistency builds credibility, and we believe in being reliable and accountable to our community.

  • Opportunity: Our volunteers are essential to our work, including in the gardens, future community center, events, and more. Volunteer management, however, can often take a backseat to daily tasks. This position ensures volunteers are connected to meaningful projects and supported throughout their experience.

Skills Required

We are looking for someone with the following qualities:

  • Top-notch customer service skills: Clear communication, a positive attitude, and the ability to create a welcoming, productive work environment.

  • Strong communication skills: This role serves as the bridge between our organization and the communities we serve. Excellent communication via email, phone, and in-person interactions is essential.

  • Task-oriented approach: Ability to stay organized, track volunteer participation, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Relationship-building skills: You’ll engage with diverse groups of volunteers, from middle schoolers to work-release participants to senior citizens. It’s crucial to connect with people from all walks of life and treat every volunteer with care and respect.
